Andrew Mellor

Andrew qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon in July 1997 from University of Glasgow Veterinary School and started working at the surgery straight away.  He was born and grew up in Lytham.  He is married to Sam, a Prescribing Practice Nurse and they have two children, Victoria and Joshua.

 

In his spare time he enjoys stargazing through his telescope, watching films, reading, walking his dogs and spends a lot of time juggling his kid’s activities!  He has a Labrador called Tess and Ruby who is a cross Irish Setter and Labrador.  He has also had cats and birds in the past.

Carlos Pascual

Carlos qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon in 1999 from Cordoba Veterinary School in Spain, he has been working in the UK since 2001 and came to work at the surgery in 2007.  He was born in Granada, Spain.  He is married to Harriet, a Speech and Language Therapist from Bolton and they have two daughters, Carlota and Sofia.

In his spare time he enjoys playing the guitar and piano, reading, entertaining his daughters and painting and drawing – you may have noticed the caricatures of the staff in reception, these were drawn by Carlos.  He has a Greyhound x Bedlington Terrier called Guille, a Springer x Cocker Spaniel called Leona, a Hermann’s Tortoise called Dina and two rabbits called Pedrito and Ivy Rose (all named by Sofia and Carlota!)

Rachel Armer

Favourite animal: Giraffe

Claire Wright

Claire is originally from Liverpool but moved to Garstang 6 years ago and has become a proper country girl!  She lives with her boyfriend who is a Sports Science Lecturer and their Labrador, Rosie.  She has an Irish Sports horse called Tilly who she is hoping to an event with when she matures!  She is interested in anything horse related, and anything sport related, and loves outdoor adventure activities, Liverpool Football Club, Saint Helens Rugby League and chocolate!

If you were to come back as an animal what would it be and why: A grizzly bear so I could eat as much as I wanted and then hibernate all winter!
Favourite aspect of the job: The huge variety of cases, you never stop learning!
Least favourite aspect of the job: Birds, it's a long story, but I am terrified.

Heather Phillips

Princess Heather started at the surgery in November 2006, and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse from Myerscough College in October 2009.  She was born and grew up in Blackpool.  She lives with her fiancé Craig, who is a Software Developer and they have a little girl called Mia who was born in October 2013 and a little boy Rory born May 2016.

On her weekends she enjoys spending time with her family going to parks, farms and the beach. She also loves going out for tea and especially the odd date night! She is hoping to start Schedule 3 procedures which means she will be able to undertake minor acts of Veterinary Surgery such as stitching wounds and removing small lumps. She has a ginger and white male cat called Patrick.

If you were to come back as an animal what would it be and why: A fly so she could sit on the wall and nosey in other people’s conversations!
Favourite aspect of the job: When an animal breathes on its own after being assisted during thoracic surgery
Least favourite aspect of the job: Slimy, frothy vomit!

Emily Watson

Emily started at the practice in June 2009 and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse from Myerscough College in October 2012.  She was born and grew up in Blackpool. 

Emily has a black cat called Red and a great Dane called Mabel.  Out side of work Emily spends time with her family, enjoys trying new crafting projects and cooking.

Lisa Beardsall

Lisa started at the surgery in July 2011, and qualified as an RVN in February 2015.  She was born and grew up in Blackpool. 

 

In her spare time she enjoys dancing, singing and going to see musicals.  She is part of an amateur dramatics company where she performs musicals at the Grand Theatre.  She has previously starred as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, Cha Cha in Grease and Violet Newstead in 9 to 5.

 

She has three cats and a dog – Minnie, a ginger domestic longhair; Mickey, a black domestic shorthair; Scar, a black & white domestic shorthair; and Kipper, a small black crossbreed.  Kipper was a rescue dog who came to the practice as a stray, paralysed and needed major spinal surgery in his neck to fix it.

Favourite aspect of the job: Nursing poorly animals, giving TLC and making them feel comfortable.  Helping anorexic animals to start eating is very rewarding!
Least favourite aspect of the job: Having a patient not make it after all your hard work and when you have gained a bond with them

Jess Cameron

Jess started at the surgery in July 2011 and qualified as an RVN in September 2016.  She was born and grew up in Blackpool.  She lives with her fiancé Kyle, who currently works in retail and is studying for a degree in Network Engineering.

In her spare time, she enjoys walking and jogging with her dogs, reading, watching TV and films and playing video games.  She has two dogs - a terrier called Kiba and a Pomeranian x Papillon called Rocket – and three male cats called ZeeZee, Xander and Ronan.  She also has two chinchillas, Kupo and Tama.  She has been attending agility training classes with little Rocket with Fylde Agility, and hopes to compete with him in the future.

If you were to come back as an animal what would it be and why: A police dog so she could scare criminals and bite them, but get praised for it!
Favourite aspect of the job: Discussing nutrition with clients and caring for exotic patients such as reptiles and small furries

Least favourite aspect of the job: Seeing animals badly hurt or killed in RTAs

Ellie Watson - Student Nurse

Ellie started at the surgery in 2016 as a trainee Veterinary Nurse and will be going to Myerscough in September 2017 to start her Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing.  She was born and has grown up in Blackpool.  She lives with her mum at the moment but has just bought a house with her partner Simon.

Her interests include anything with animals, and in her spare time, she enjoys re-decorating
her tropical fish tanks, days out in the sun, shopping and watching comedy on TV.  She has a black cat called Bertie, a tortoiseshell cat called Bella and a black Labrador puppy called Luka.

 

Favourite animal: Cow
Favourite dog breed: Too many to choose from!  Either a large dog or a tiny dog
Favourite films: Grown Ups, The Incredibles, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz (anything funny)
Favourite books: Thrillers / Psychological thrillers

If you were to come back as an animal what would it be and why: A cat in a nice loving home so she could sleep when she wanted to and always be warm with comfy beds and toys
Favourite aspect of the job: Anaesthesia and surgery.  Seeing a patient go home after we have worked hard over the days they’ve been in to make them better

Least favourite aspect of the job: Losing a patient despite our best efforts to nurse them back to health

Abigail Ashton

Is a foodie who has a passion for make up, she likes watching films and going to the cinema, listening to music & spoiling her bearded dragon. She loves pink gin and lemonade, going to clubbercise and socialising with friends.

Favourite film: I don't have a specific one, I'm a film fanatic but I do especially love Disney and Marvel films

If you were to come back as an animal what would you be and why: A caterpillar, because they like food, I love to sleep and at weekends transform myself into a beautiful butterfly!
Favourite aspect of the job: The puppies of course but I also enjoy anaesthesia and surgery

Karen Bull

Karen is Andrew's sister and was Director of Nursing in Devon until Andrew took over the business, then she moved her family here to become the Practice Manager.  She was born and grew up in Lytham.  She is married to Simon, who wants to start his own motorcycle tyre business, and they have a son, John – he is very sporty, loves swimming and adores animals so he loves coming to the practice to see who we have in the kennels!

In her spare times she enjoys DIY, sewing and dressmaking, and is a passionate cook!  She has an Italian Spinone called Lily and Belle 9 a lurcher) who is a rescue dog who came into the practice via the dog warden.

Favourite aspect of the job: The animals!  The challenge, learning new skills and still being able to work with ‘people’

Jennifer Francis

Jen started working at the surgery way back in February 1985 and qualified as a VN in August 1987 from Myerscough College. After qualifying she continued to develop her skills in all aspects of the practice. She is now responsible for the administration in the practice working alongside Karen, the Practice Manager. She was born near Bolton and moved to Thornton Cleveleys with her family when she was four and a half years old. She is married to Gary, a profile protection manager and they have a son who is currently studying business in further education.

 

In her spare time she enjoys walking at Nicky Nook and the Lake District, cycling, and thinking about decorating and DIY (but never actually getting round to it!).

Lynn Young

Lynn started at the surgery in July 2001 she was born in North Shields, Tyne and Wear. She lived in Rochdale where she met her husband Andrew. They moved to Blackpool in 1997 and have two daughters Emma and Sarah and Grandchildren Kenny & Luna

 

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her granddson Kenny. She has two cats, Bailey and Paris. She adores Emma's Siamese cats Dougie and Ninja and Sarah's african pigmy hedgehog called Boo.

Julie Doherty

Julie started at the surgery in 2005 as a Receptionist.  She was born and grew up in Thornton-Cleveleys.  She is married to John, who is a plasterer and they have two grown-up sons, Steven and Jake.

In her spare time, she enjoys walking, listening to music, reading, drawing and gardening – her garden is her sanctuary. 

Favourite animal: Elephant – She has adopted one from the Born Free Foundation called Emily Kate

My hobbies are going to the park with the children and swimming, Family, husband Dave of 10 years, her children are Alexia and Milo and that her pets are Cookie, honey, buffy and Pervis.

Natasha Henderson

Natasha started at the surgery in 2016 as a receptionist.  She lives with her mum and dad.

 In her spare time, she enjoys seeing friends and family, going to the cinema, cycling, swimming, walking along the beach and reading.  She also likes to travel to new destinations.  Natasha travelled quite a bit in her early twenties including volunteering in South Africa for a month with Wild Cats. She has travelled most of America, enjoying the Northern side in particular. She experienced working with animals at a rescue centre for 4 years, and also did Cabin Crew for a year. She has studied a variety of qualifications at Blackpool college and worked as a hotel receptionist for three years. She has four cats, Freddie, Pebbles, Ollie and Jenny.
